Gpysy Rose Hatch Cover and 25 giveaway

Here is a photo of the hatch cover right after we brought Gypsy Rose home from the folks we bought her from.

As you can see she is pretty well weather beaten.
WE ARE GOING TO FIX THAT!!

First I will peel off the damaged layers of veneer until I get down to good wood.
Good wood at last!
The veneer here still had some damage on the edge so
I scored a straight line with my razor knife and removed the damaged part.
Now I have layed a thin strip of wood in to fair out the surface
of the hatch cover.  The paint cans are just for weight while the glue drys.
Hey, boat restoring is hungry work and this blog after all is called
Woodworkin and good eats so rib steak here I come.
Here I am sealing up the wood with 2 coats of high quality exterior house paint.
Now its time to cut the cedar strips that we will cover our hatch with.
Dont know what I mean?
See the cedar strip yacht tender I built elsewhere on this blog.
Now I am routering a bead on one edge of the strips and a cove on the other edge.
See how that makes the strips nest together?

Strip number 1!! I am excited!
Here we are 15 strips in.
Okay, thats it for this progress report.

Gypsy Rose hatch covers are done!

Here we are coating the hatch cover with epoxy resin,
which is a super waterproof high end plastic.

We also did the forward and rear hatches
when doing the main hatch.
Here is Connie wetting out the 6 oz fiberglass cloth with more epoxy resin.
This will make the hatch covers very tough
so they will stand up to being walked on.
Done except for sanding the fiberglass off the edges.
Here is the final before and after shot.
What do you think?
Thanks for stopping by my blog and happy sailing to you!!

Sanding Taping Painting

Hi there friends . . . well, heres what Connie and I have been up to.Sanding, taping and coloring on Gypsy Rose.We are still planning on having her in the water, sometime in June.  Check out these photos.
Here I am sanding the hull. She needed it all over, deck, hull and bottom. So far we have the deck and hull finished.
Heres Connie taping the the side.
The sun was so bright in this shot that the colors washed out,but maybe you can tell, that we are replacing the pink deck with a gray.It has a green tint in it and I think in looks so much better. We think that the pink color was a result of the sun fading out a beige color.
Heres Connie coloring the edge of the hull a deep gloss green.
Here I am laying in the hull paint.Notice the reflection of the boat trailer. It dried just as glossy.Shes looking prettier with every job we check off our list.Thank you for stopping by.  Please leave a comment and let us know what you think.
