this is what a set of pool table supplies looks like when it arrives here at our shop ... well, its actually not alchoices quite this beat up, but we have had a couple sets of slate arrive in more than one piece ... better luck this time. no lost pieces; no broken slate. click the photos to enlarge them, though youll have to bear with me as i learn adobe lightroom. my ancient photoshop 7 program stopped working with the last windows upgrade .. i am NOT happy about that. image/adjust/autolevels .. i am really missing that one.

roughed out rails and cushion wood and cushions above

miracle of miracles .. it is to be exactly like the one above that we made and
installed about this time last year.

were even using the same drawing, materials, and cutlist.

here we go .. the new guy chris, finished the slate support frame last thursday ..

and here he is beginning the assembly of the base

all together last friday ..

and today we added the slate frame and the slates below

as of the end of the day today, we had the rubber cushions glued on to the poplar, and
tomorrow well get them bolted to the slate and add the curly maple rails ...

Will and I went home for lunch the other day and when we got back, Trevor had us rolling in the aisles with his new Halloween decoration. He was in the middle of a big mdf run and had an extra piece so he whipped this up for the kids in his neighborhood ... He says he has some glossy white spray paint for the full effect ... BOOOOOOOOOO ! ... Loved it

Here we are (again) working
Were still on the temporary base here, and Steve is working on the real base in his shop just down the road ... Were planning to assemble the whole thing, granite and all, at least once here in my garage before we ship it all to New Jersey, along with its smaller (8x 20) cousin that we started work on yesterday.
Yesterday, we assembled the temporary base for the 20 table in the adjoining bay of my garage and Trevor started cutting the mdf parts for that project ... If I built these all the time, we would definitely need a MUCH bigger shop.
This one is
Yesterday, Herb Johnson of Johnson Marble and Granite, of Proctor, Vermont came to get the first five granite templates. Thats his shop above. Herb has done much stone work for me in the past including the marble vanity top in this post, and all of the marble tops on this page here.

Its happened every year for the last 18 years ... Hundreds of Vermont artists welcome their friends, neighbors and strangers into their studios for two days of show and tell. Its about education and community ... Its about cleaning your studio a little more than the usual ... Its an opportunity to maybe put some prototypes and experimental pieces out and see what happens and what people might say about them ... Its like going to a craft fair without the travel ... In short, though I sometimes resist and carp when its time to actually get it together, but now, at 9:00 Friday night, Im ready, and Im sure by the end of Sunday, I will have had another enjoyable and stimulating weekend .... And, Mondays a holiday ..... Click the pictures to enlarge them .... The building above looks like it might be a big outhouse, but its really my sawdust shed .... The post immediately below is from last year ... We have a new custom hat artist, Denise Tilley showing her hats here at our shop .... more on all this later ...
