Home made Pizza Pie

Back in the 1950s when Pizza hit America by storm everyone called it Pizza Pie.
Simple basic ingredients, heres my recipe:1 and 1/2  CUP WARM WATER (105 to 115 degrees)1  TABLESPOON YEAST3  TABLESPOONS  OLIVE OIL 1  TABLESPOON SALT1 TABLESPOON HONEY4 CUPS OF ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
Cover and let rise in a warm place. If your house is on the cool side, turn the oven on for a few minutes, then turn it back off, and  set your bowl in. let rise for 1  1/2  hours or so.
The dough will at least double in size.
I love punching it down after it rises. Doesnt that look good?It smells good too!

Now its time to have fun!
Putting corn meal on the wooden peel keeps the dough from sticking.
I would love to be able to toss the dough but it would take a lot of practice and I dont make pizza often enough.
Marinara sauce.Mozzarella and turkey pepperoni, sweet basil leaves right out of our garden. We will add cheddar cheese, black olives and mushrooms.
We have a pizza stone on the Grilla pellet grill. We are at 550 degrees.
Wow does that ever look and smell good.
YUM!!!!
For the second pie we have garlicky hamburger, mozzarella, basil, black olives and mushrooms.
Such beauty!
In it goes for 10 -12 minutes.
Double YUM!!
Grab a plate and lets eat! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Please leave a comment.(I hope this made you hungry)

The Infancy of a Workbench Design

I had a wonderful conversation with Kari a few weeks ago in which we both agreed that the space between the front & back legs of a bench does not need to be open (in line with the legs). That conversation confirmed an idea which has been brewing in my head for a few weeks: using panels in addition to stretchers between my front and rear legs. I think this will add both mass and stability to the bench.
After we talked I worked on some sketches of how to construct the legs.
The legs will be a 2x6 & 2x4. The double panels between
the stretchers will be 3/4" OSB on the outside &
3/4" MDF on the inside.
Today while waiting for a meeting to start, I sketched some more. Im pleased with the choice the design is coming together.
This shows a cross section of the bench construction.
Sorry the leg cross sections are backwards, thats
the order I drew them.
I need to do a little more research and then finalize it.
How is your bench leg assembly constructed?

a 60 wide slab of claro walnut

well, we got a big one here. its going to aspen when its finished. this is the widest slab of claro walnut we have ever had ... it clocks in at 63" at the wide point ... after we trim it up a bit, it will be about 60" wide at both ends and about 8 long. it will have one of our new trapezoid bases. click the photos to enlarge them....
couple close ups of the rough slab here ... were working on it in my garage as were a little jammed up at the shop at the moment.
heres the cad drawing
will and trevor wheeled it out to the shade by the woodshed yesterday to begin the flattening process. fire up the makitas ...
the slab was astonishingly flat for something so wide ... a tribute to skip and norman at good hope hardwoods and their ability to dry this stuff so we can work it up. its truly amazing. that really is a four foot level there on the right end. the winding sticks are about 45" i think.
time ran out before they could completely smooth the face, but the bottom side is pretty much ready to sand and they should be able to finish this side today ... more later as we progress.
today we finished the rough smoothing of the top of the slab, did some rough sanding and mocked up the base with some 2 x 4s we had from when we picked it up at our friends loading dock.
just like this only in natural finish steel .. all for now

ebay find before and after

a little before and after here.  a client brought us the chair below.  it had a lovely mousey bouquet about it and some really funky red fabric, but the bones were good, and the hardware was complete and functional.  our friend isaiah at bespoke upholstery carefully disassembled it, saving the original fabric and frames for patterns .. the headrest is finished and will be reunited with its chair tomorrow.  click the photos to enlarge them ..
and i happen to have on hand a skin of maine chili pepper leather from universal leather company that the client thought was perfect for it.
we sanded the walnut veneer lightly and touched up the black painted edges.  we then gave it to our friend steve holman and he sprayed a little lacquer on it to freshen up the shine and get rid of the mouse odor.
pretty righteous upholstery work by isaiah ...
parts and patterns .. we made two new frames for the seat and back upholstery .. all the foam and burlap was replaced too.
very cool upholstery foundation design.  obviously a factory chair. i tried to find one like it on google images but no luck ... info anyone?

very nicely laminated frame.  i have no idea how they did that ... lots of pressure somehow.  its kind of folded into shape.
the client asked us to reinforce the base so we added a 14 gauge plate
between the swivel and the seat.  good to go ..
update 5/31
